
CCM’s “Xanadu” works some Strange Magic
It“™s a good, old-fashioned campy sendup.

The show left me drunk on laughter and exhausted from the overwhelming energy of the cast.

Director Pugh keeps the focus on the unjustness of the accusations and the mounting tension within the community as they feel increasingly frustrated by a court which seems to be acting without any regard to the greater good of the community.

Cincy Shakes is known for creative reinventions of Shakespeare’s works and this is certainly a creative gamble. I am happy to say that it pays off.

Director Matthew Lewis Johnson transports Shakespeare’s story about 400 years from the 1590’s to the neon-soaked pulse of the 1980’s.
