This New Story Builds on an Old Story
Returning to the world of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, the famously overconfident watchmen take center stage. Dogberry and Verges are Scared is a new comedy that follows the pair as they face unexpected challenges that put their confidence, courage, and partnership to the test. Filled with verbal gymnastics, genuine friendship, and sharp humor, the play offers audiences a fresh perspective on two unforgettable characters.
Excellent Chemistry
This production succeeds because of the chemistry between its two leads, Michael Doherty and Anthony Lawton. Dogberry and Verges bounce effortlessly off one another, creating a comic partnership that feels natural and endlessly entertaining. Their timing keeps every exchange fresh, while their mixed-up phrases turn even the smallest moments into laugh-out-loud highlights. The surprising dance breaks add another layer of theatrical energy, perfectly matching the production’s playful spirit.
The ensemble, including Jeremy Dubin, Courtney Lucien, Sami Ma, and Elizabeth Chinn Molloy, brings energy to the production through a variety of roles. Their characters’ reactions emphasize the comedy of Dogberry and Verges’ unique approach to solving problems.

Scenic Design by Samantha Reno, Costume Design by Rainy Edwards, Lighting Design by Mike Inwood, Sound Design by Robert Carlton Stimmel, Choreography by Jenn Rose, Stage Management by Cole Cammack-Sweasy, and Assistant Stage Management by Cassidy Stone all contribute to the production’s playful style and polished execution.

Amanda McDonald is the Chief Development Officer at Cincinnati Works, where she leads fundraising, marketing, and communications. She brings more than 15 years of nonprofit leadership experience, including senior roles with ArtsWave, Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati, CHNK Behavioral Health, and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
An advocate for the arts and community, Amanda serves on the boards of the Fitton Center for Creative Arts and the College Hill Community Urban Redevelopment Corporation. She is also a grants reviewer for the National Endowment for the Arts, a member of Rotary Club 17 and the Greater Cincinnati Planned Giving Council. Amanda is a proud alumna of the University of Cincinnati and C-Change Class 13.
