When Patsy Met Louise: A Country Story Told in Songs

Always… Patsy Cline tells the true story of an unexpected friendship between legendary country singer Patsy Cline and her devoted fan, Louise Seger. Louise, the show’s main narrator, recounts how she first became enamored with Patsy’s music after seeing her perform on a television program. But life got in the way. A divorce and a move to Houston, Texas, came and went before she heard Patsy’s voice again, four years later. This time on the local radio. Determined not to let go, she became a regular caller to the station, constantly requesting Patsy’s songs. Eventually, she learned from the DJ that Patsy would be performing in town. That chance led to the two women meeting in person, sparking a correspondence that blossomed into a solid bond—lasting from 1961 until 1963, when Patsy died in a tragic plane crash.

The show features more than twenty of Patsy’s greatest hits, including “Walkin’ After Midnight,” “Crazy,” and “Sweet Dreams.” It’s a singalong, a touching tale of friendship, filled with humor and classic country spirit.

A Two-Person Tour de Force

There are only two cast members in this show. The dynamic duo on stage share a genuine connection, clearly enjoying each other’s company and creating an engaging, natural chemistry that draws the audience in.

Charlotte Campbell plays Patsy Cline to perfection. Not only does she capture the essence of Patsy (warm, down-to-earth, and charismatic) but she also humanizes her in a way that makes this legendary icon feel deeply relatable and real. Moreover, her vocal performance is nothing short of spectacular. Campbell captures Patsy Cline’s rich, emotive tone with remarkable authenticity and brings every song to life with enormous passion.

Sara Mackie as Louise is sensational. From the moment she steps on stage until the end of the show, it’s impossible not to be captivated by her presence. The sincere depth she brings to the character and the storytelling is the sign of a true seasoned professional.

The Skilled Team Shaping the Story’s Look and Sound

Scenic Designer Tyler Gabbard ( also The Carnegie’s Theatre Director) has crafted a rich, inviting backdrop that perfectly captures the spirit of the era. Musical Director Steve Goers (a University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music faculty member with experience on more than 100 regional productions) does double duty at the piano and leads a stellar team of musicians. Brad Myers (guitar), William Mullen (drums), Linsey Rogers (fiddle), Keith Humphries (pedal steel), and Matt Wiles/Bill Jackson (bass) are the band. The musicians interact with the cast throughout the show, adding both humor and realism.

Everything comes together seamlessly under the steady hand of director Corrie Danieley (an Associate Professor at Northern Kentucky University, director and actor with credits ranging from off-Broadway to national film and television). Together, they bring Patsy Cline’s classics to life with energy, precision, and just the right dose of country soul.

The Last Note

This is an expertly crafted musical that should be seen. It’s a full-blown celebration of Patsy Cline’s legacy, so it’s more than a tribute, it is an education. You’ll feel every note, laugh through the banter, and catch yourself singing along before the night’s over. It’s a show that’ll have you clappin’, swayin’, and grinnin’ all the way home.
