ETC’s “Alice in Wonderland†Earns 4 LCT Nominations
Panelists for the League of Cincinnati Theatres (LCT) have recognized Ensemble Theatre of Cincinnati’s Alice in Wonderland with four LCT nominations for set design (Brian C. Mehring), Props (Shannon Rae Lutz), and featured actresses in a musical (Deb G. Girdler and Sarah Mackie) as well as distinguishing it as a recommended production.
Alice in Wonderland is a magical musical retelling of Lewis Carroll’s classic story. This sassy version is the toe-tapping tale of a lost girl, a cool cat, a wild hare, and the original “dancing queen.†The Queen of Hearts is back to dish up her special recipe for justice and all of Wonderland awaits Alice’s trial.
Panelists praised Deb G. Girdler’s performance as the Queen of Hearts; she was “a major anchor in this show and did an excellent job. She was imperious and ferocious and simultaneously, a King as well as a Queen.†Sarah Mackie’s Cheshire Cat showed “over-the-top characterization and overall style.†Brian C. Mehring’s set was “visually stunning…Creative staging gave the story a vibrant and smart play space.†Finally, Shannon Rae Lutz’s props were “unique and clever…the detail and love she showed was commendable.†The entire production was “holiday fun fare for the family. You just sit and wonder as Wonderland washes over you – nonstop singing and dancing†with “dazzling, outlandish charactersâ€.
Alice in Wonderland continues through December 30th. Tickets can be purchased at www.ensemblecincinnati.org.
