The Christmas hits keep coming! There are so many ways to get your holiday spirit on in Cincinnati. From formal dress-up events to kids shows to shows you wouldn’t want to attend with your parents. Know Theatre’s Ain’t True & Uncle False for the Holidays is a cozy dose of hometown hilarity wrapped in a warm holiday hug. Older kids and parents are welcome to this and a fluffy blanket of familiarity.
For just four nights, Paul Strickland and Erika MacDonald share their love, laughter, and music in a breezy 90-minute riff, framed as the first time Paul took Erika home for the holidays at Big Fib Trailer Park. They visit the family they adore—and the family…whose names you know.
What unfolds is a hilarious, good-natured back-and-forth which the Opening Night audience adored.

Meet Ain’t True and Uncle False
“Ain’t True” now uses a walker and squints to see you. Paul shares stories from her youth, told with his signature warmth. Uncle False licks his teeth while he fires off his unhinged conspiracy theories, including why Frosty the Snowman absolutely could not have been a real snowman.
Paul is a remarkable internationally acclaimed storyteller, armed with a guitar and a twinkle in his eye. His partner Erika, who also directs and is also internationally acclaimed, meets him with a look, and an energy, that radiates love and positivity. And she plays the kazoo. Their rhythms are clear, their stories charming. Many unfold like old Family Circus cartoons (for those of us who remember): they start, run around the playground a bit, and return home full circle, ending on a truism that might just make you appreciate your own wonderfully weird family a little more.
Stories include:
- The Thanksgiving When People Just Stared at Everyone
- Heck the Y’alls
- Frosty
- Nine Cryptids of Christmas
- Catch and Release Shoplifting
- Eleven Days of Fib-ness

Overall
If you’re craving a warm cuppa comedy, this one’s for you. The Opening Night crowd—packed and sold out—was full of glee. You can be, too. And yes, there is merch.
Know Theatre is the perfect setting for this. It’s casual, come as you are vibe, easy parking, and proximity to so many OTR options to either begin or end the evening.
